Podcast 140 How Do You Know When To Strike in Kendo
2019-01-19 06:00:00-05
This episode is an answer to a great question by a long-time member, Ming. his question was "Must I strike my opponent as soon as he (she) crosses my striking distance, even when he(she) has not yet moved his(her) kensaki off the center? Because there is no opening, even when my opponent has crossed into my striking distance. "

[PL] Hiro's Review: Tanaka sensei vs Sato sensei
2019-01-23 10:42:19-05
Happy New Year!!!!!! Sato sensei from Suri-Kaburi. He is not a police officer nor a teacher at school. That makes him one of the rare 8-dan. Why rare? It is because he needs to make time to train. He doesn't train as much as police officers and teachers. I think he is really good at explaining kendo in words. Anyway, enjoy the vid!

2019-01-24 05:00:00-05
In this podcast, I want to share my thoughts on how to deal with those who strike super hard. Recently one of the members here posted some pictures of her fist after training. It was all swollen and purple. People shouldn’t strike kote that hard, and they shouldn’t hit the fist!

Do you have chronic pain that you want to reduce? Did ibuprofen give you side effects? It did to me because I overdosed. I couldn't handle the pains I had after training. If you are looking for an alternative to ibuprofen, I recommend these two.

I was so moved after watching this. This is an almost perfect tachiai for Hayashi sensei. Well, I don't really know if Hayashi sensei himself thinks so but to me this tachiai was so ideal. As a Kendo For Life Club member, you get a PDF file of my notes on this tachiai. If you are a platinum member, you have the video for download as well. Hope this helps.

Hiro's Pick: Iwasa sensei vs Yano sensei
2019-01-30 05:00:00-05
They are young 8-dan. As of September 2017, Iwasa sensei was 47 years old (source: http://www.letskendo.com/posts/5367/). This video was taken at the taikai held on April 1, 2018. I assume that Yano sensei is about the same age.
Yano sensei executes a great men strike that you cannot miss. Please analyse it and probably you can compare his men strike with Hayashi sensei's.
Hope you enjoy the video.

[PL] Hiro's Review: Nabeyama sensei's Lecture on Tōma and Okori
2019-02-12 05:00:00-05
This is a very good lecture for all of us. We all know about this, right? I am sure your sensei tells you not to move your feet once you're in your uchima. But you do, don't you? :) If you don't, good for you! If you do, that's OK. Let's fix it! Nabeyama sensei is talking a bit more specific. Don't even shift your weight. You can but it shouldn't be a part of your "striking" ritual.
